Dijo Thomas, the noted Conservationalist / Environment Protection Activist / Wildlife Researcher / Defence Analyst has Discovered & Proved Two NEW Species + New Family, 1. NeelagiriKaduva, & 2. Raktha Adhika which are Critically Endangered [it can be considered, not even ‘Critically Endangered’, but an ‘Extinct Species’, for all practical purposes] using the Facts, Features, Factors etc. Based - New Species Scientifically Proving Method {F3B-NSPM }.

For the First Time in the world, a NEW Species was Scientifically Proved without 1. Photographs or 2. Direct Sighting !!!!

A few of the Unique Facts about NeelagiriKaduva  - {of more than 80+ Facts}

  •   It is after 1000s of Years that a New Species of Big Cat is found .
  •   The Rarest Species in the World {only ~30 numbers}  .
  •   Is the 8 th Big Cat in the world {after Tiger, Lion, Leopard etc.} .
  •   NeelagiriKaduva {NK} is As Big as the Tiger, the Largest of Big Cats .
  •   It is A New Family altogether + Only one Species in the Family   .
  •   . NeelagiriKaduva is the Ancestor of both Feline {Cat} & Canid {Dog} Families . And More .....

:: Neelagiri Kaduva, the NEW Species Discovered by Dijo Thomas - Details

Neelagiri Kaduva

Neelagiri Kaduva, at first sight, looks roughly like a Leopard, with the size of a Tiger.

It is Reddish Brown in colour.

The NeelagiriKaduva has the face of a Dog. It has stripes like a Tiger, [but vauge], with the face of a dog – hence the name "Patti Kaduva" – meaning “DogTiger”. It also has dots on its body, making ordinary people mistake it for a Leopard. [To know the nature of stripes & dots, please see the pic of the Cub of NeelagiriKaduva Killed in Neyyar Dam on 02 Oct 2014.

Photographs: Do not exist. Pic of the Cub of NeelagiriKaduva Killed in Neyyar Dam exists.

Discovered & Scientifically Proved by: Dijo Thomas

Scientifically Proved using: Facts, Features, Factors etc. Based - New Species Scientifically Proving Method {F3B-NSPM }

Scientific Paper Presentation: Dijo Thomas presented Scientific Paper on NeelagiriKaduva, the NEW Species Found by him in 103rd Indian Science Congress; held at University of Mysore on 07 Jan 2016 & an updated paper in 104th Indian Science Congress; held at SV University, Tirupathi in Jan 2017

Total Confirmed Population: 2 [in Thiruvantahapuram] + 3 [in Thrissur]= 5

Population: NeelagiriKaduva is the Rarest Species in the whole world , with a confirmed population [by Dijo Thomas] of initial 4 {now only 2 adults remaining (possibly) (as 2 cubs were killed by local people on two different occasions)}, highest probability of 10 and maximum possibility of only 25-30 [highly unlikely] in the whole world!

Sound: It growls when angry. { Dijo Thomas has heard it personally in Neyyar Dam Thiruvantahapuram Dist., & in Attappadi, Palakkad Dist, in 2016 January}

Main Prey: Dogs { Dijo Thomas thinks that it may eat other members of Dog Family like Doles, Hyena, wolves etc., but only the first exists in the same geographical location as NK in Kerala.} Goats, Cows, Chicken, Rabbit etc. { Dijo Thomas thinks that it Possibly eats deer, pigs, sambar deer, wild goats etc. in the wild}

The main prey of NeelagiriKaduva are dogs. It usually is very shy of humans & stays hidden in forests. They come to human settlements near forests very rarely, mostly to hunt dogs. Unlike Leopards, they do not normally attack humans.

The most interesting feature that fascinated me no ends; was that after attacking a dog it will put it on its shoulder and carry the kill to the forests. There, far away from human settlement only it will eat them.

Size: The NEW Species is as Big as a Tiger. The Female is smaller, only 3/4th of the male. {Both were confirmed by Dijo Thomas through Eye witness accounts & Pug Mark size}

Pug Mark Size: 12 cm. [A fully grown adult Tiger's Pug Mark Size: 9 - 14 cm in India]

Colloquial Names: Patti Kaduva, Naai Puli, Patti Puli. Naai Kottan, Naai Nari, Kattan Puli etc

Range: NeelagiriKaduva has high Migratory nature. Its range extends from 100 to 200 Kms aprox.

NeelagiriKaduva do NOT attack Human beings.

NeelagiriKaduva is not at all afraid of Human beings.

1. First Discovery of NeelagiriKaduva by Dijo Thomas - Neyyar Dam Thiruvantahapuram Dist., Kerala, India

Date of Discovery :: 25 Sep 2014

NeelagiriKaduva killed & ate Goats, Dogs, Rabbits, Chicken etc. It killed cats, but did not eat them.

The attack continued for around 15 days.

Pug Mark Size: 9 cm

Eyewitness: More than 25 persons, at different occations, had seen it. Of them, four of them saw it in board day light. Two of them at noon at different places. A husband and wife at 6.15 pm less than 50 meters from their house.

[I have testimonies of some of them on record.]

2. Second Discovery of NeelagiriKaduva by Dijo Thomas - Kanjani, Thrissur Dist., Kerala India

Date of Discovery :: 08 March 2016

NeelagiriKaduva killed & ate Goats, Dogs, Chicken etc. It killed cats, but did not eat them.

The attack continued for around 2 months. I camped in Kanjani, during those 2 months, trying to get its Pictures.

Pug Mark Size: 12 cm

Eyewitness: More than 18+ persons at different occations had seen it. Of them, 3 saw it in board day light. [I have testimonies of some of them on record.].

My Team & Myself had narrowly missed it many times in Kanjani, during those 2 months. As we were searching for NeelagiriKaduva [NK] using a torch in night, they sense us much before we are able to see them, & they move way.

We were even able to smell it more than 3 times. NeelagiriKaduva has a smell similar to that of a Tiger, but more intense.

More than another 100 + persons have seen it in the past 15 years, before 2016, in Kanjani-Engandiyoor-Kunnamkulam belt of Thrissur Dist.

More than another 50 + persons have seen it after May 2016, in Kanjani-Engandiyoor-Kunnamkulam belt of Thrissur Dist.

The English Reports / English Translation of the News Paper / TV Channel Reports in a few prominent Indian News Papers / TV Channels are given here:

1.       The English Translation of the News Paper Report in Mangalam Daily Is the Forest Department scared of Neelagiri Kaduva?”, a prominent Kerala News Paper, and the one Not Afraid to tell the Truth; on 18 February 2016 on the inaction of the Kerala Forest Department regarding the Search & Conservation of NeelagiriKaduva, in Malayalam Language

Mangalam News Paper – Feb 18, 2016.

Is the Forest Department scared of Neelagiri Kaduva?

Palghat:-

In spite of Scientifically Proving the existence of a New Species of wild animal called Neelagiri Kaduva , the Forest Department seems to be too reluctant to accept it as well as grant permission to photograph it, complains Activist & Wildlife Conversationalist Dijo Thomas, who is waiting for the permission since last one and a half year. Initially, some animal attack instances near the Neyyar Dam 1 and a half year back was assumed to be Leopard attacks. But through Scientific study Dijo Thomas proved that, it is an altogether New Species and belongs to a New Family too.

Dijo Thomas says that this is the Eight Big Cat in the world. The finding of Mr. Dijo Thomas is even without seeing the Third in size of all Big Cats. More than 25 persons living around the Neyyar Dam have sighted it on different occations. The photograph of Neelagiri Kaduva is needed to get this recognized as a new species. Dijo assumes that this species, which is native to Kerala forest area, would be maximum of 30 only, in numbers.

Dijo had found that it once existed in Neyyar Dam, Malampuzha, Wayanad, Thattekaad etc. One need permission from the Forest Department to go into the forests to take its photograph. Even though they orally assured of the permission, they had not given it till now. In October and December 2014, Dijo had put in requests for permission to Chief wildlife warden G.HariKumar in.

One need to spend at least three months in the forest to get the photograph. A team of 12 persons including Dijo Thomas is ready for that. Dijo Thomas says that he himself will raise funds for the expenses incurred in this operation [as the Kerala Forest Dep. Is Not co-operating]. In spite of all this forest Dept. has not come forward to grant permission. Dijo says Forest Dep. is not interested in acknowledging [& conserving] a new species & they are worried about having to take care of this new species [& total lack of interest in conservation], could be the reason behind there laxity to grant permission.

Through the Discovery of Nilagiri Kaduva; Dijo Thomas have presented before the science fraternity a New Methodology to identify a New Species without having directly seen nor having a photographic proof of the same. Nilagiri Kaduva has features of both Dog and Cat Families. Looks like a Leopard on sight. The face resembles a dog. Hence these are known in many places a Patt Kaduva [DogTiger]. It does not attack human being, its favorite food is dog meat. It is to catch dogs that they venture into human habitat. Its claws don’t retract like Leopards. Dijo proved that the attack in Neyyar Dam was not by Kazhutha Puli [Hyena], Doles [Jungle Dogs], Forest Migrated Domestic dog, Jungle Cat or Leopards [These are the only 5 possible wild animals (even if the remotest possibility is considered), for the attacks in Neyyar Dam, if you discount PattiKaduva/ NeelagiriKaduva.]

Some months back public had killed one [Cub of] NilagiriKaduva that had ventured near the Neyyar dam area. A family had sighted [the] Nilagiri Kaduva [and its Cub] that had caught a [cat] at their house in [Neyyar dam]. Dijo wants to protect the remaining number of this species before they get killed by the people due to the fear of attacks by them. Dijo also has the records of sighting instances of this species in Mangalore some 30 Years back.

Forest dept. has not denied the Scientific Finding of Neelagiri Kaduva. Granting permission to photograph this Species will pave the way for some Big News for the World. [to hear about the finding of a New and Rare species.]

Mangalam Daily 18 February 2016

………………………………………………………………………………………………

    2. Report in Back Cover of Kerala Kaumudi Daily, a prominent Kerala News Paper, on22 Jun 2016 regarding the finding of NeelagiriKaduva, in Malayalam Language:

“Is that Unknown Mysterious Animal a New Species called NeelagiriKaduva?

Thrissur:

The Unknown Mysterious Animal that had posed a threat by killing & eating domestic animals for two decades in Thrissur is a New Species called “Neelagiri Kaduva”, claims a wildlife conversationalist.

Dijo Thomas from Kottayam asserts that the footprints of the unknown Mysterious animal obtained from the coastal areas of Chavakad &Kanjani etc.are those of Neelagiri Kaduva, which is similar to Leopard in shape, claims Dijo Thomas, who is a native of Kottayam .He has confirmed that the animal is Neelagiri Kaduva after detailed examination of footprints obtained from houses in that area and by its attacking patterns [hunting pattern, behaviour pattern etc.]

The findings & explanations of Mr.Dijo Thomas, who had presented the scientific paper on his research at the 103rd Indian Science Congress held in Mysore, are:

It has been found that this particular species had become extinct about a century ago. It had existed mainly in Kerela.There could be only a maximum probability of around 30 numbers of Neelagiri kaduva (in the whole world), in kerela & and along the borders of Tamil Nadu. Natives of Neyar Dam had killed a cub of Neelagiri Kaduva years ago [in October 2014].

After the postmortem was conducted, (four) samples were taken for DNA test. Later the Forest Department claimed that they were not able to conduct the DNA test as the chemicals added for the same was a wrong one [which was a typical cover-up & fraud conducted by the Forest Department].

At  the same time Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (PCCF) SRI O.P KALER, of the Forest Department(who is one of the the top  officers the Forest Dept.hirarchy and IFS officer) had approved  the arguments of mine. He tried his level best to obtain permission for Mr.Dijo Thomas to search the forests to take the photos of Neelagiri Kaduva.He was totally convinced that it was a New Species by Features Based –Species Elimination Method. After arguing on behalf of Mr.Dijo Thomas for about 1year and trying to persuade the CWW Mr.Hari Kumar to grant permission to him to conduct the search.Finally, after one year, he was forced into silence by his superior officer,the Chief Wildlife Warden (CWW).He finally sadly told Mr.Dijo Thomas that others were not approving his requests & he was totally helpless to support Mr.Dijo Thomas any further.

The  Chief Wildlife Warden (G.Harikumar who is also a PCCF &  second in kerela Forest Department hierarchy and the person responsible to grant permission for the search in the forests by Dijo Thomas) has not taken any effort or measures to conserve this highly Rare Species or to include it in the critically endangered list & protect it.

In the Indian Science Congress, I had presented a report on the discovery of Neelagiri Kaduva and the New Scientific Method to prove that it is a New Species-named Features Based-Species Elimination Method (FB-SEM). There are more than 16 factors (variables) and more than 50 Points(Details) in this method. The animals which had even the remotest possibility to have conducted the attack in Neyyar Dam were Leopard, Hynea, Dole (wild dog), and Wild Cat & Dog. However it was proved scientifically that none of these 5 species had conducted that attacks.

Secondly, through the detailed analysis of Attacking Pattern, Hunting Pattern, Behaviour Pattern,(out of it 4persons including a husband & wife saw it in daytime) the description of 25 persons who had seen it on different occations in Neyyar Dam; its pug marks [color , size ,shape etc of Neelagiri Kaduva and more than 40 other factors]; I had proved that the species in the Neyyar Dam is not one of the any presently known species in the world.This is how it was proved that the Unknown Mysterious animal attacking in Neyyar Dam was a New Species.

At first Forest Department officers & scientists(who co-operate with them) had claimed that it was a wild cat.(The size of pug mark of the attacking animal was +9cm + the fact that 100% pug marks had claws in it.(In a wild cat the pug mark wan’t be visible) + many other points proves that it is not a wild cat). Later they said that it was dog, which became very big (as big as a Tiger – the pug mark size in thrissur was 12 centimeters) because it ate chicken waste!!!!!!(Sic). (Now that “finding” of theirs certainly deserve a Nobel Prize).However it is not true.

Though I had challenged them many times (through media, e-mails, my website etc.)For an open debate (before media in Thrissur Press Club), they have not responded even once (which shows that they are sure that they will not be able to disprove my theory or prove their points). Wildlife Conservationists fear that if efforts are not taken to list them in the Critically Endangered Species List by the state Forest Department & Conserve them; they will become totally extinct any moment.

NEELAGIRI KADUVAS have NOT attacked human beings. The main preys of Neelagiri Kaduva are dogs. They never attacked human beings. Their color is reddish brown (with faded stripes like that of Tiger). Face is similar to that of a dog. Their size is equal to that of Tiger.Footprints measure 12cm (in Thrissur). This is equal to that of a fully grown Tiger. They climb trees, like a Tiger. The finding of Mr.Dijo Thomas is that Neelagiri Kaduva is the common ancestor of Feline (Cat) & Canid (Dog) families. Thought the villagers living near forests knew about it through tales told by their parents (and very occational sightings), they call Neelagiri kaduva by colloquial names of Patti Kaduva, Naai Puli, Patti Puli etc; no photographs of it exist in the world.
